10 BABY'S FIRST XMAS IDEAS
A baby's first Xmas is as significant as their first birthday! So, if you are racking your brains for some ideas to make your love bug's first a memorable one, here are nine awesome ones to bag.
A few rules of the game, first.
Plan
For Christmas holidays, the million-dollar question is 'where to celebrate?'. With your family or mine? It's also a tough decision for co-parents. Because with a baby in the picture, splitting holidays can't be on the cards. All in all, a decision will have to be made (and early enough to avoid heartbreaks). Answer this question, and your baby's first Xmas plans fall into place.
Declutter
It's time to tame some clutter and claim space in your baby's nursery. You need all the space you can get for all your baby's new gifts from friends, grandparents, co-workers, etc. Trash all your baby's old stuff (clothing, toys, etc.) or give them to charity or a pregnant friend in need.
Wishlist
You want your baby to have only the best this Xmas. So make a wish list of items your baby will love to have as a gift. Put your wish list online and send it to grandparents, friends, co-workers, etc.
Don't Stress
Of course, a baby's first Xmas should be fun and not stressful. That said, ensure nothing disrupts your baby's routine; sleeping, eating, playing, etc. And make time for some 'just-you-and-baby moments'.
And now, the ideas!
TRY A NEW TRADITION
Your bundle of joy's first Xmas may be the time to break tradition - try something new. Wearing matching PJs or outfits, going to the library, and volunteering at a soup kitchen could all be new ways to put a spin on the holidays. Your baby may not be able to participate but will have fun.
SPEND SOME QUALITY TIME
Bonding is what Xmas is all about. Be intentional about setting aside an hour to be with your baby and spouse (partner). Tune out to all distractions, and the hustle and bustle, which are typical of the season.
HAVE A READ
You already know the benefits of teaching your child to start reading early. It enhances brain development, is a great way to bond with them, and the list goes on. What better time to start them off on the right bat than at Xmas? Go online or visit your local bookstore and get some baby board books. Books with a Xmas theme are most preferred.
GIFT YOUR BABY
You can't have your baby's first Xmas without giving them a gift. Yes, we know they will be getting lots from grannies, friends, and other loved ones. But it's never a complete Xmas without a gift from you. Some gift ideas are toys (a cashmere stuffed animal or silver rattle) and jewelry (a gold bracelet).
THROW A BABY PARTY
Do your friends or relatives have babies? Then throw a virtual baby party. Dress your babies up in Santa hats (you and your pals), give them some toys to play with by the Xmas tree and get together on Zoom.
SNAP AWAY
Tis the season to make memories! Your baby's first Xmas is a milestone you will look back on for many years. So go ahead, get your camera ready and take as many shots as you can. Filling up that baby photo album is long overdue.
STAYCATION
It's very tempting to stay indoors in the comfort of your home, but a change of environment will do you and your baby a lot of good. A staycation works if you're not planning on travelling long distances with your baby this holiday. What do we have in mind? TIPS: Tour your town, pitch a tent in your living room and play, visit the library, or have a cartoon marathon.
PLAY ON BABY'S SENSES
There's a lot to tickle your baby's senses this holiday. Get your baby to smell some pine and finger ornaments on the Xmas tree. Or watch their eyes twinkle at the sight of tree lights and smile at the sound of some holiday music or bells jingling. Plus, a taste of some Xmas dishes (if they're nine (9) months and over).
CRAFT A CARD
Looking for an inspiration for a DIY Xmas card? Look no further. TIP: Have your baby play with something Christmassy like an ornament or a Santa hat and take a pic while your baby is at play. Or put them by a holiday setting - decked fireside, door or Xmas tree. Upload the pic on to a website or App that creates holiday cards and voila!
SPRUCE UP THE NURSERY
Perking up the nursery with some holiday-themed décor will make your baby's spirit merry and brighten up his or her first Xmas. Check out Pinterest for some ideas.
